Girl on a Wire

I’m away at a retreat this week and also on deadline (ack!), so this will be short and sweet.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the panel at the LA Times Festival of Books — and to moderator extraordinaire Aaron Hartzler, and lovely fellow panelists Danielle Paige and Sara Benincasa. We had such fun! And it was very exciting how quickly copies of Fallout sold out, but also how many of you bought or brought Girl on a Wire. Also, this was just a tremendously well-run festival and it was a real honor for me to be a part of it. I got to catch up with lots of friends (Kelly Link and I went to dinner at the Magic Castle, a long-time dream of mine) and I met some wonderful people — including the very fancy Margie Stohl, author of this fall’s forthcoming Black Widow YA novel. I just did a newsletter with all the things in it, including a reminder that Girl on a Wire will be in a bunch of Wal-Marts starting next week (keep an eye out!) and of course many many Lois Lane things. Eep!

Those include the launch party (May 8 at Joseph-Beth) and some June tour news. I’ll be on the road with these fabulous, DANGEROUS LADIES, all of who are at this week’s retreat:

• At Women Write About Comics I go on and on (and on!) to the fantastic Ardo Omer. We had a really long, great talk;
• Girls in Capes says five stars; and
• Geek Chic Elite loves Lois Lane.

And next week is the official release (though I’ll still be on deadline — ack!), so keep sending your reactions and photos of the book and et cetera et cetera. There will be more interviews and other things happening. Please consider purchasing early (and often — I kid, mostly ;-), and consider posting an Amazon and/or Goodreads review and sharing if you enjoy the book. Thing the First) Thanks to all of you who entered the YASH bonus contest and the winner is… ::drumroll::

Thing the Second) I'll be at Books by the Banks this Saturday in Cincinnati. Admission is free, but there will be copies of Girl on a Wire (and lots of other books) on sale from the divine Joseph-Beth Booksellers and I'll happily scribble in one for you. Or just come by and say hi.

I'll also be doing “Speed Dating” as part of the festival's Teen Scene at 11 a.m. — the participating authors are: Gwenda Bond, Mindee Arnett, Kristen Simmons, Katherine Howe, Laura Bickle, Jennifer McGowan.

And now I will give the usual neurotic writer caveat that the most fun part of getting an ARC will be that you can read it and the final version, which I'm working on right now. But you know you still want it. (I hope! Because sneak peek! And much will remain the same. I refer you to the "neurotic writer" modifier. 😉 (Also: I believe the locale for this score is D1 in the Artist's Alley.)

• I was honored to be interviewed by Bianca Spriggs (an awesome poet and literary superstar) for the Carnegie Center blog about Girl on a Wire and process and the publishing biz and etc. You can also read Girl's prologue there. (And you can read a deleted scene that used to take place right after it here as part of the YASH.)
• And I was also honored to be featured in the Lexington Herald-Leader Weekender in an article by the wonderful Mary Meehan (and on the cover too). I may never live down this headline, but so flattered and I'd probably better just show you…

Speaking of which, it says you should come to the launch party at the Morris Book Shop tomorrow at 5:30 and get signed books and eat cake and watch circus performances and have SO MUCH FUN. And you should. Look at that window:

If you want signed copies, the best way to get them is to call Morris Book Shop before tomorrow night or contact Joseph-Beth Booksellers Lexington store (where Christopher works, so he can get me to sign 'em and they'll ship for a small fee) (I love both our bookstores! our booksy riches runneth over).
