Welcome to this stop of the YA Scavenger Hunt extravaganza!
I’m Gwenda Bond *wave* and my bonus content is being hosted by Lance Rubin. It’s a two-page sneak peek of the Lois Lane: Fallout sequel, Double Down, which you can enter to win one of two advanced reader copies of in the bonus contest described at the end of this post. (And a signed copy of Fallout is part of the Team Teal prize, of course!)
If you’re new to the hunt, this tri-annual event was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors…and a chance to win some awesome prizes! At this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize–one lucky winner will receive one signed book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online for 72 hours!
Go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page to find out all about the hunt. There are a bunch of contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all of ’em. I’m a part of the TEAL TEAM, as I mentioned — but there are also all those other teams with a chance to win a whole different set of signed books.
If you’d like to find out more about the hunt, see links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt homepage.
Directions: Somewhere below, you’ll notice that I’ve listed my favorite number. Collect the favorite numbers of all the authors on the blue team, and then add them up (don’t worry, you can use a calculator!).
A journalist published by everyone from the New York Times to Teen Vogue, Sona Charaipotra is the co-founder of CAKE Literary, a boutique book packaging company with a decidedly diverse bent. A collector of presumably useless degrees, she has a masters in screenwriting from New York University and an MFA from the New School’s esteemed Writing for Children program. When she’s not hanging out with her writer husband and two chatter-boxy kids, she can be found poking plot holes in teen shows like The Vampire Diaries and Pretty Little Liars. Call it research: Sona’s a strong believer that three-act structure can work in fiction, too. Her debut novel, Tiny Pretty Things (with CAKE co-founder Dhonielle Clayton), is on shelves now. She is a proud member of the We Need Diverse Books team. Find Sona on the web at SonaCharaipotra.com, or on Twitter: @sona_c.
Find out more information by checking out her website or buy the book.
For this hunt Sona is featuring Tiny Pretty Things.
ABOUT THE BOOK
Black Swan meets Pretty Little Liars in this soapy, drama-packed novel featuring diverse characters who will do anything to be the prima at their elite ballet school.
Gigi, Bette, and June, three top students at an exclusive Manhattan ballet school, have seen their fair share of drama. Free-spirited new girl Gigi just wants to dance—but the very act might kill her. Privileged New Yorker Bette’s desire to escape the shadow of her ballet star sister brings out a dangerous edge in her. And perfectionist June needs to land a lead role this year or her controlling mother will put an end to her dancing dreams forever. When every dancer is both friend and foe, the girls will sacrifice, manipulate, and backstab to be the best of the best.
For her bonus content, Sona has supplied a playlist (my favorite). Check it out!
MOOD MUSIC
Here are a few songs and soundtracks Dhonielle and I had on repeat in order to get into the right headspace for TINY PRETTY THINGS.
“Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy,” The Nutcracker:
It’s perhaps the most memorable bit of music for all dancers – especially itsy-bitsy baby ballerinas, and this iconic sample played a key role in keeping us on our toes as we wrote the first act of Tiny Pretty Things. After all, Sugar Plum Fairy was the role every girl would kill for – and only one would win.

“Grand Pas de Deux,” Giselle
Setting up Act 2, Dhonielle and I spent a lot of time grounding ourselves in the mournful melodies of Giselle, especially the pivotal grand pas. The beauty, the heartbreak, the melancholy, it sticks with you long after those final fluid movements.

For Gigi:
Gigi and Alec’s romance catches both of them completely off guard, and there’s just something in this moment – between beautiful Leo and an innocent Claire – that captures that sudden sense of falling for me. I could watch it on repeat all day.
If you don’t know the song, the title might throw you. But if you dig deeper and listen to the lyrics, they are so very Bette. “You pretend you’re high. You pretend you’re bored. You pretend you’re anything, just to be adored.”
For June:
Oh, poor, sad, lonely June. She’s so very down on herself, always comparing, never measuring up, always second best, ever the understudy. And so of course, I’d play this song on repeat when trying to get into her desperate, ever-so-slightly unhinged headspace. “I don’t care if it hurts. I want to have control. I want a perfect body. I want a perfect soul.”
Don’t forget to enter the contest for a chance to win a ton of signed books by me, Sona Charaipotra, and more. To enter, you need to know my favorite number: If it was a date, it’d be Friday the 13th. Add up all the favorite numbers of the authors on the blue team and you’ll have all the secret code to enter for the grand prize!

I love the relationship between Lois Lane and Superman because I love the idea that the most powerful man in the world (Superman) falls in love with Lois Lane (an average women). I love the idea that someone doesn’t have to be physically powerful to be powerful. I also love Lois’s confidence and her unwillingness to compromise want she wants.
I did this before but I forgot to add that I added Fallout and Double Down on Goodreads, and I follow you on Twitter and Tumblr.
I love that Lois is strong and adventurous (and makes me obsessed with journalism)
I added both books to Goodreads and I follow on Twitter (@nschumacher85)
I love Lois Lane because she always fight for what is right even if the whole world is against her! I already follow you on twitter (@LenaMarsteller) 🙂 And I have both Fall Out and Double Down on my goodreads lists.
*I don’t know what my favorite thing about Lois & Superman is. I just like them together. Superman is my main superhero and I’ve watched all movies/shows. My fav Superman and Lois was Smallville. 🙂
*Both added on Goodreads (Jenn Lancaster)

Lois is such a strong character on her own and I love that. She has so much tenacity and how you wrote her character in Fallout was great! I’ve added Fallout (read) and Double Down (to-read) on goodreads and I follow you on tumblr and twitter.

Added Fallout on Goodreads, Add Double Down on Goodreads, I followed you on Twitter. I like Lois and Superman together because they are compliment each other well and they are both strong characters in their own right. Lois isn’t just a damsel in distress.
I really like Lois’ representation in Man of Steel. She wasn’t afraid to go anywhere or investigate anything for the story. I don’t have a Goodreads account although I’m being tempted to get one soon!

I love Lois Lane because she is spunky and a risk taker. I love the strong female characters like Mary Jane and Barbara Gordon that you find in the comic book world. I just they had more story lines of their own.
I followed you on Twitter and Tumblr and added both of the Lois Lane books to my To Read list on Good Reads.
Thanks for the extra giveaway! 🙂
I’m actually not the biggest DC fan, but I love that they both work at the Daily Planet! Writers for the win! I follow you on Twitter, and added both books on Goodreads!
My favorite thing about Superman is his selflessness.
Added both on Goodreads. (Lekeisha Thomas)

I’ve never been a big fan of Superman (he’s just not my superhero of choice) until your books. But what I love most about your Superman and Lois Lane is their chemistry. Each of them is a great character in their own right, but you feel like they truly belong together because of the relationship they are forming with each other and not just because the story says they will.

I love how Lois Lane always gets the answer though it can take awhile (the identity of Superman).

Favorite thing about Lois and Superman is how their strengths compliment each other.
I have not read the book ye so I am basing my thoughts on everything I know about the characters. My favorite thing about Lois is that she is not dependent on Superman. Yes he is the love interest but he does not define her.

I love the intense relationship they have.

Lois and Clark have always been one of the super-hero power couples; in the comics, in movies, and on tv (Cain and Hatcher, and even better Welling and Durance) so I’ve always loved the epic romance angle. My favorite thing about them is just the chemistry between the two characters.
I already had both Fallout and Double Down on Goodreads, and I just followed you on Twitter.
My favorite thing about Superman is that he’s the original superhero, very classic, and I’ve read Fallout, so it’s on my read shelf, and I’ve got Double Down on my to-read (Kira Brighton). I also believe I am following you on Twitter (@kirabauthor). Thanks!
My favorite thing about Lois Lane is her independency and the symbolism she carries for women everywhere. I love how her relationship with Clark is one out of mutual respect!
I already read Fallout, so it is already on my Goodreads 🙂 I also added Double Down.
And I follow you on twitter! @novelsnecklaces
I like that Lois Lane, at least in the short story I read from you so far, is really a go-getter and wants to figure things out.

The thing I love about Lois is that she’s confident, headstrong, and doesn’t let people walk over her. She also doesn’t stand for bullies which is something I love.

I like Superman because he is the classic hero. He may not be my favorite, but he is iconic and I respect him for that. I like Lois as a brash reporter rather than a damsel in distress.

Not sure if this is still open – you could mean 11:59 PM October 4th, or 11:59 PM October 3rd the way it’s written here. So if I’m too late, feel free to discard this 🙂
I love that both Lois and Superman are in the writing world. Their triangle was beyond complicated, with Lois in love with Superman and Clark Kent in love with her. They’re the same person, but that pesky secret identity got in the way until he came clean 🙂
Added both books on Goodreads, and Instagram follow from tabularasasm
I love that Lois doesn’t sit around waiting for things to happen to her. And Superman still maintains a sense of innocence.
Already had both books added on goodreads.

Thank you for the chance.
I love that Lois is super confident, headstrong, and fearless on the outside, but vulnerable and insecure at the same time. And I love the romance with Clark, especially as “SmallvilleGuy,” I think you portrayed that *so* well in its budding stages.
I’m totally following you on Twitter, Tumblr, and have both books on Goodreads. I’m still mad that I couldn’t make it to see your talk at Joseph Beth in Cincy earlier this year. [Grumble grumble stupid work schedule….]
I love EVERYTHING about Superman!! I love how gutsy and smart Lois is and yet how clueless she is when it comes to Clark Kent 😉 They are both strong characters and their romance is EPIC!
Fallout is on my Goodreads READ (and reviewed!) list–I LOVED it 🙂
Double Down is on my Goodreads TO-READ list–I can’t wait to get my hands on it!!
I cannot wait for the sequel!

I think some of the things I like is that Lois searches for the truth and from the Smallville tv version is brave and can kick ass:) I’m looking forward to reading your Lois Lane/Superman version it sounds awesome.
