Yeah, I know we’re all watching returns, but we’ll need a break. Tonight’s ep:
Hi, Infidelity. Veronica (Kristen Bell) is accused of plagiarizing her paper for Professor Landry’s (guest star Patrick Fabian, "Joan of Arcadia") criminology class. In trying to clear herself, she discovers that her mentor is not who she thought he was.
Wallace (Percy Daggs III) is pardoned by Dean O’Dell (guest star Ed Begley, Jr., "Arrested Development") for cheating on his exam, but makes a decision that could affect his college career. Piz (Chris Lowell) invites Veronica to a night of bowling and she decides to bring Logan (Jason Dohring) and Parker (Julie Gonzalo), unaware Piz wanted the evening to be more of a date. Enrico Colantoni, Ryan Hansen, Francis Capra and Tina Majorino also star. Michael Fields directed the episode written by John Embom.
Best ep this season, I think.
“That’s ADMIRAL Moneybags!” Hello, Logan. The boy’s still got it (when he’s given a decent line).
I’m happy with this one too. Very pleased they went straight to “Okay, so Claire’s expelled” and respected our intelligence enough not to put us through a painful “Wait a minute, could this have been faked? Let’s prove it” plotline, which I was dreading. Ditto trimming the fat on the Rory Finch line of investigation. All in all, a tight episode, and even though I don’t know where the story is going, I’m getting the feeling that the plot is nice and thick all around Veronica, and some good mysteries are about to come into focus.
Good ep all around, although I have to say that the immediate and merciless expulsion of Claire was somewhat undercut by the rather lenient treatment of Wallace. Last I heard cheating was pretty harshly dealt with. I also questioned the logistics of Keith’s evening of infidelity–aside from the squickiness, there was the accident to be dealt with. He’d been drinking, and he’d need to make some sort of report and contact his insurance, but instead we rather uncharacteristically skip over all that to the walk-in-and-get-frantic. Maybe I’m just bitter. I vastly preferred Paula Marshall to LSG.
WHERE THE HELL IS MAC?!?!?!
I have high hopes that Mac is a major figure in one of the other arcs (that we’ll hopefully get to see!) and that’s why so little of her thus far.
Yeah, on the accident stuff — but I’ve been in a couple where everything was wrapped up in essentially half an hour or so. If he didn’t have to go to the hospital, it’s just the amount of time it takes a cop to get there and do a report and a wrecker to deal with your car. I’m willing to let it go. AND I’m kinda glad to see them complicating Keith’s character this way, even if I don’t approve. I’m willing to go there with this character when I wouldn’t be with someone else.
Logan felt more Logan-like in this ep. And I’m really liking Xander–er, Piz.
My impression is that cheating is so rampant at colleges these days, they can’t afford to be too hardcore about it. C just had someone get busted with a phony paper and we think he got a zero on it but was allowed to stay in the class, so…
If he didn’t have to go to the hospital, it’s just the amount of time it takes a cop to get there and do a report and a wrecker to deal with your car.
I guess my main concern was, wouldn’t said cop at least ask about whether one or both drivers had been drinking? It had come up earlier in the episode. Maybe it’s going to come back later.
I’m with you on the complicating of Keith’s character, though like you I can’t approve. But the poor guy’s been alone for a while now, so it’s somewhat understandable.
We never really saw him drink even one whole martini though, did we? He pretty much took off after The Conversation was my impression, and their drinks were untouched…
Very good episode, and an episode where there was a lot going on. I like when I can’t tell how the mystery is going to resolve itself — well, OK, so the TA was the obvious suspect, but his motives ended up being very different than what we were led to believe.
Feeling the Wallace love this episode — and at least some of it seemed to be coming from Mrs. O’Dell, which was a weird moment. I think I liked this episode just because it wasn’t just about Logan and Veronica, and Keith was given a (secret, tawdry) life outside of his work and Veronica. I like the fact that the affair seems right to me (in terms of chemistry, not in terms of morality), because I saw the two actors in a relationship on “Just Shoot Me”. Yes, I used to watch that show — because it was on between Simpsons reruns and I was too lazy to change the channel!
I think Rob Thomas has confirmed that the second arc of the season is Mac-heavy, which is why we’re not seeing a lot of her now. Also, Tina Majorino is a cast member on Big Love so her schedule needs to be flexible.
I liked this episode very much. I particularly enjoyed the fact that Tim is ambiguously evil – he doesn’t like Veronica and probably never will, but he’s not precisely out to get her, and he’s not stupid. Plus, he’s fun.
I’m trying to imagine what Logan could have done over the summer that he’s not willing to tell Veronica about. This is the guy who owns up to cheating and illegal gambling without even batting an eyelid, and it’s not as if Veronica isn’t aware of some of his less savory activities (burning down the swimming pool last summer, to name but one example).
I join in the love of the Keith subplot, even though this is obviously going to end in tears. Really, after an alcoholic thief and a smug liar, where else are you going to go but an extramarital affair? I do wonder, however, whether the fact that Keith was cheated on by his wife will become a factor in his feelings for Harmony.
