This looks to be a good one, and judging by the title, we’re back to the Pi Sigs.
Lord of the Pi’s. Selma Rose (guest star Patricia Hearst), the wealthy grand-daughter of the founder of Hearst College and a member of the Hearst College Board of Trustees, mysteriously disappears the night before she is to cast a swing vote that will determine the fate of the Greek system on campus. Keith (Enrico Colantoni), with Veronica’s (Kristen Bell) help, is hired by Dean O’Dell (guest star Ed Begley, Jr., "Arrested Development") to investigate the disappearance. Meanwhile, Veronica has been rehired as a photographer at the Hearst Free Press, but she and Logan (Jason Dohring) fight over her involvement in the rape case. Percy Daggs III, Francis Capra, Ryan Hansen, Michael Muhney, Tina Majorino, Chris Lowell and Julie Gonzalo also star. Steve Gomer directed the episode written by Diane Ruggiero.
Damn, that was good. Best episode of the season so far. “The Big Lebowski” homages were great. Ed Begley Jr. as the dean is just tearing it up on this show. “I’ve met smarter sandwiches.” The Logan/Veronica thing is so very painful and real. And Keith and V. working together as they were meant to . . . beautiful.
“Keister egg.” Heh.

I’m going to be really mad if it turns out all the rapes were faked (I couldn’t tell whether that was the subtext here) — because I still contend that GHB or no, the women would know if they’d been forced to have sex against their will or while they were unconscious.
Ed Begley Jr. is awesome. I’ve thought so since a little movie I like to call Transylvania 6-5000.
But, yes, good episode. Predictions on who buys it next episode? (At least Mac is back!)

I don’t think all the rapes will turn out to be fake; there was no confirmation there from the perpetrators, just V’s assertion and then abashed silence. And from the previews it seems clear that there’s more to the story.
I remember Begley in “St. Elsewhere,” which I loved (and it’s coming out on DVD!! YAY!!), but since then he hasn’t had a lot of great roles. “Arrested Development” aside, that is. (And “Trannsylvania 6-5000. I trust you.)
Ditto Patty Hearst. She was a bit stiff in the later scenes, but mad props for casting her in the first place.
I’m still laughing over the whole Lebowski thing. Too bad they couldn’t get Philip Seymour Hoffman to reprise the Brandt role.
Oh yeah, it must be November sweeps: that breathless preview of next week’s show was really irritating. I’m almost afraid that they are going to kill off a cast member, due to the sheer number of cast members there are on the show. But I can’t see how the old cast members can be lost without it having serious reprecussions for the rest of the season — I mean, are you going to kill off, say, Wallace, and then have it not be the season arc? — and the newer cast members haven’t even had much to do yet. But then, the show owes a lot to Joss Whedon’s shows, and Mr. Whedon was never one to not bump off a cast member. Hell, he made someone a cast member JUST to bump her off.
On a related note, can I just say how much I love this show’s stunt casting? We’ve had Whedon, and Alia Shawcat and Michael Cera (of “Arrested Development”) last season, and then Patricia Hearst last night. And was I the only one who was idly wondering if she might have been kidnapped by the SLA? Her performance was a little stilted, but she’s not really an actress, so that’s OK.
WHAT THE HELL is “Love + Piz = ?” That commercial (?) really bugged me; I think that’s what happens when you are attached to a show without being in its target demographic group.
I was cheering (quietly) when Logan finally called Veronica out on the asymmetry in their relationship, because honestly, he’s sort of right. It ends up being a pyrrhic victory, since I think it pretty much guarantees the dissolution of the relationship. He saw that too at the end of the episode. He’s an interesting character, and at the end of the episode, I had visions of HIM being bumped off, just as an expedient.
As to the rapes: I somehow doubt if they all have been faked, since we had the two girls raped last season, and who, unless I missed it, have no relationship to the faked rapes.
Did I miss Peter Cottontail’s relationship to the girl who walked off the roof?
All in all, a good episode.
So, there’s a serial rapist on campus who drugs his victims; Logan brings Veronica home from campus, drugged to the gills. Keith doesn’t put two and two together?
I liked the episode and I liked the conflict between Veronica and Logan (and obviously adding Keith to that mix would have been problematic), but that contrivance is a little hard to swallow.
I agree with Gwenda that even without semen, there’s no way there’d be no conclusive evidence of rape. A rape kit, after all, does more than swab for semen.
So I read this (and several similar posts) before I came here, and now I have whiplash.
I, too, loved the Big Lebowski references. I thought this was a pretty solid episode. I like when Veronica and Keith work together. They have great chemistry. The Logan thing is getting painful to watch. I feel sorry for him. I’m expecting a Veronica/Piz thing to come up soon…
So I’ve fallen behind and am just starting to catch up. Have missed a couple episodes.
I, too, liked the stuff with Keith. There was absolutely no reason to bring Veronica along on his B and E, but I figure he’s fence-mending and he knows how to do it. A caper! Logan does not know how to do it — obsessive, protective hovering. The Logan storyline is always painful to me — there’s not a person in the world who cares about him. I see that Veronica is pulling away, but I don’t see why. That is to say, I can think of multiple reasons why, but don’t know which is hers.
What I didn’t like: Keith’s cluelessness about the assault on Veronica. Wouldn’t Logan have told him about the hair when he brought Veronica home tht night? And if he didn’t, wouldn’t Keith have figured things out anyway?
The vengeful fake-rapes of the awful feminists. And the jaunty portrayal of the rape of the frat king. Did the feminists do that? Cause if so, let’s stop thinking of them as sisters in the cause.
I figure some of the rapes are real and some not. I don’t know what that does to anyone’s alibi.
Forgot to say that I think Veronica’s rape may have been one of the fake ones. Just because the rapist didn’t bother to take her out of the parking lot —
