So, there’s all this talk — some it really useful — about short fiction and etc. And I could talk about that, but I’d rather recommend something great instead. Luckily, I tend to read the last story of anthologies first, and I just started Ellen and Terri’s trickster anthology, Coyote Road. You need this book, because Kij Johnson’s "The Evolution of Trickster Stories Among the Dogs of North Park After the Change" is AMAZING. A knockout. One of the best stories I’ve read in ages. How does Kij manage that devastating yet hopeful ending? No one does it better.
I’m more than looking forward to reading all the rest too.
I feel the same way Jeff does, but about novels. It’s almost impossible for me, these days, to get excited about reading a novel.

I’ve been enjoying “Coyote” as well – haven’t read Kij’s story yet but Ellen Klage’s take on games brought a smile to my face. Finally someone who understands how torturous Chutes and Ladders can be!
Kij’s story is my favorite story this year so far. SOOOOO good.
It’s really a lovely looking volume too, with the Vess stuff, and a truly comprehensive beginning. And I do like that story a lot, Gwenda–mentioned it in my review for Realms of Fantasy.
I can’t believe I might’ve contributed to Mr. Barzak using the words “barbaric yawps”…
